Joseph Solman (American, 1909-2008) was a painter who was instrumental in creating The Ten, a group of important New York based artists in the 1930s. In 1949 he was given a retrospective, Paintings by Joseph Solman, at the Phillips Collection in Washington, DC. After that he went on to produce a significant body of work until his death in 2008. Solman’s work can be found in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, NY; Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, DC; Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; and many more.
